Armstrong Flooring™ Medintone™ Homogeneous Sheet Vinyl Flooring: Proven Performance for Healthy Environments
June 12, 2023
AHF Products, a leading manufacturer of hardsurface flooring for commercial and residential interiors, introduces the newly refreshed Armstrong Flooring™ Medintone™ Homogeneous Sheet collection. Perfectly engineered for spaces demanding superior infection control, the floors help to protect the health and well-being of occupants in healing and learning environments.
The collection, the top specified flooring for healthcare spaces, features patented Diamond 10® Technology for best-in-class scratch, stain, and scuff performance as well as enhanced traction for an added measure of safety. Made to stand up to the wear and tear of commercial settings, this low-maintenance solution keeps floors looking newer, longer.
Medintone™ can withstand heavy traffic and staining for a true low-maintenance floor perfect for healthcare and education environments. The floor’s coating resists soil, stains, scratches, scuffs, and abrasions. It is easy to heat weld and flash cove for spaces demanding superior infection control. Because polishing is not necessary, required maintenance minimizes cleaning time and disruption. The true through-pattern construction provides even wear and a consistent appearance along with superior gouge and abrasion resistance. With a broad palette of coordinating colors and patterns, these floors withstand heavy foot and rolling load traffic and are designed to look beautiful for years to come, despite daily maintenance and rigorous disinfection protocols.
“Selecting commercial healthcare flooring comes with unique considerations and challenges that other industries might not need to deal with,” said Yon Hinkle, Vice President-Resilient, AHF. “Cleanability, durability, comfort, aesthetics, load requirements, and other factors all play a role in determining which flooring is best suited for various areas within healthcare environments.”
Medintone™ features a complete spectrum of soft tonal neutrals and bright pops of color, perfect for orienting visitors and creating engaging environments. Medintone™ has a reimagined color palette in a complete spectrum of soft tonal neutrals and bright pops of colors perfect for orienting visitors and creating engaging environments. As part of the Continuum™ Solutions, all collections work seamlessly with other Armstrong Flooring™ commercial products to create beautiful, coordinated spaces so there is not conflict in terms of design. This program allows designers to choose the right flooring structure without compromising on vision and provides the ability to create flows and wayfinding methods using a variety of flooring materials throughout the building – from patients’ rooms to corridors to dining.
“The new Medintone™ collections offer a great variety of colors and patterns to meet new design trends. And, because of its cleanability, it is ideal to help maintain a sanitary environment,” said Hinkle.
One of Medintone’ s main advantages is fewer seams across an expanse. The seams are heat sealed to ensure that microorganisms won’t penetrate in between. “Unlike LVT or VCT, sheet vinyl can be coved up a wall, making it very easy to clean and maintain,” said Hinkle.
Medintone™ is FloorScore® certified. The floors are phthalate-free, formaldehyde-free, free of heavy metals, free of flame retardants, free of PFAS, and do not contain asbestos (with the last one being a prerequisite for resilient flooring per WELL V2). They emit little to no VOCs.
“The floor is the foundation of all interior space. Smart flooring choices not only have the potential to maximize efficiencies through faster installation and ease of maintenance, but they also can improve patient satisfaction through noise reduction, cleanliness, and colors and patterns that support a healing environment,” said Hinkle. “Healthcare flooring applications also need to be able to withstand rigorous disinfection protocols, both static and dynamic loading from heavy patient beds, and provide low resistance to staff when moving wheeled equipment and patient beds.”
